When I walked into Mudflat Pottery School in 1976 I never dreamt that I would become a potter. After a masters degree in Community Mental Health and five years working as an adolescent therapist, it never occurred to me that I had talent in any other field. But the first time I sat down at a potter’s wheel, I knew I was hooked.
I hand build pieces from slabs of clay, creating simple forms that I use as a canvas of self-expression for my glazes and brushstrokes. I have been greatly influenced by the Japanese sense of design-simplicity and firing technique.
I hold a B.A. in Sociology from New York University, an M.Ed in Mental Health Counseling from Northeastern University, and an M.A, in art therapy from Lesley University. My art training includes Mudflat Pottery, Radcliff Pottery, Penland School of Crafts, and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. I have also studied in Japan with Parsons School of Design. I am a member of Cape Cod Potters and have shown my work at galleries nationally and internationally for more than 25 years. I am retired from being a Guidance Counselor at the K.C.Coombs School in Mashpee where I worked for over 17 years.
I am currently teaching workshops at Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill and the Cotuit Center for the Arts.
