The Cape Cod Potters and the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School sponsored the 26th annual Soup Bowls for Hunger on Wednesday, April 11,2018. This year we sent the Family Pantry $14,164.
The Boston Food bank has credited the Pantry with being a real solution to the hunger problems that exist on Cape Cod and as a role model for other start ups. The Family Pantry is committed to providing food to people in need from the entire Cape. Recently they established a food pantry at the Cape Cod Community College and they now have a delivery truck that drops food off at senior centers for patrons who do not have a means of transporting themselves.
This year there were three seatings: 5:30, 6:00 and 6:30. Tickets were $18 each and entitled the holder to soup, bread and a hand crafted pottery bowl to take home as a reminder of the meal's purpose.
It is not too early to start making bowls for next year. We are asking potters and students and schools with a ceramics program to assist us with this very important fundraiser by making and decorating pottery soup bowls. Bowls may be wheel thrown or hand built but each bowl should be able to hold a generous cup and a half of soup.
